The low sided wagon on the standard post-war 18'-0" chassis was class HC. A total of two hundred and seventy of these wagons were built by Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Co. as follows: 1952 21401-21625 1953 21626-21650 1961 21651-21670
All of the HC class started with corrugated sides but at least one wagon (21605) ended up with replacement flat sides (lower photo).

HC class wagons formed the basis for conversion to a number of other classes including HCN, HCP, NF, NO, NW and NA . Details of these conversions and the fate of the rest of the wagons are listed below.
