In 1959 Midland workshops built a batch of five flat wagons with two plank ends. They used an 18'-0" chassis with a 9'-6" wheelbase rather than the standard post-war four wheel chassis. This chassis was also used on the NFA class flat wagons. They were numbered 22701-5. In 1983 22702-5 were written off with 22701 going in 1986.
