Class JWA tanks

In 1928 three J class tank wagons were converted to carry petroleum products for SHELL. The wagons involved ( J1509, 2667 and 3723) became numbers 13-15. A further five (J2605, 3079, 1089, 1448 and 1952) became numbers 16, 17, 18, 29 and 30 in 1929. In 1950 these wagons were reclassified JWA.

In 1969 numbers 14 and 16 were written off followed by 15 and 17 in 1971, 13 in 1973, 28 in 1974 and 29 and 30 in 1975.

The WAGR outline diagram is shown below. This is identical to the diagram for class JW and as can be seen is not correct in detail for the JWA (it might not be correct for the JW either) which the photos show to have had a much taller filler on top and handrails/footsteps at one end.
