M.R.W.A. P (later PA) class Steel open wagons

In 1927 a new class of all steel open wagon appeared in Western Australia. It was given the redundant K class code previously used by WAGR for ballast wagons although why it was not given a code in the G class group is not clear. A further 45 were built for the M.R.W.A. by the Birmingham Railway Carriage And Wagon Co. at the same time and called class P as follows:

1927 P420-449
1928 P450-464

In 1932 P446-464 were renumbered PA401-419 and the rest were just reclassified PA. Number PA409 was written off in 1942 (presumably due to accident damage) and it was replaced by K11081 from the W.A.G.R. This wagon was given the number PA409. In 1964 the M.R.W.A. was taken over by the W.A.G.R. and the wagons were renumbered as follows:

1964 PA401, 403-8, 410-4, 416-428, 430-3, 435-445 to K40451, 40453-8, 40460-4, 40466-40478, 40480-3, 40485-40495
1965 PA402, 409, 415, 429, 434 to K40452, 40459, 40465, 40479, 40484
The wagons in this class were written off as follows:

1970 40459, 40460, 40465, 40471, 40476, 40477, 40487, 40488
