QD Class Flat wagons for the conveyance of oil tanks.

The use of tank wagons to convey oil on the W.A.G.R. started in about 1927. By 1929 there was a shortage of tankers and four flat wagons were converted "for the conveyance of oil tanks" as a temporary measure. These conversions were short lived and did not last beyond 1929. The wagons involved were Q class numbers 690 and 3227 and QA class 9350 and 9384. They were classified QD whilst doing this job and were the first use of this code.
