In 1970 fifty RCW class wagons were fitted with Glass Fibre roofs and hatches and reclassified RCH. A further forty followed in 1971. In 1973 24091 was re-converted to class RCB, possibly after an accident but more conversions from class RCB followed in the late 1970s and continued until class RCB was extinct. In more recent years the side doors of the RCH class have been replaced by planking whilst in other wagons the planks were replaced completely. |

In 1988 -1990 some wagons were converted to QL (later QD) class flat wagons for sodium cyanide containers. In 1993 sixteen RCH class wagons were converted to RCC class high-sided open wagons for coal traffic. |
