In 1965 the WAGR acquired 12 flat top wagons from Commonwealth Railways as part of a job lot of 64 wagons. These had been R 48, R 64, R 65, R 68, R 356, R 369, F 884 (was R 43), G 241 (was R 241), G 247 (was R 247), TD 262 (was R 262), TD 280 (was R 280), SA 308. They became WSF 30601-30612.

In 1967 two wagons were converted to WSG. Six were sold to Goldsworthy Mining in 1971 and the remainder became class WSE in 1973.

A new WSF class appeared in 1979 when WSF 30163 was "converted from R" to became a rail winch wagon. Again presumably an ex CR wagon. In this case it would have been one of the ex Commonwealth Railways wagons bought in 1978 from ANR listed here.
