The WSH class of forty-five ballast hoppers numbered 30501-30545 were built in 1965 by Tomco. In 1970 fifteen hoppers (30501-30515) were converted to narrow gauge and reclassified XM.

In July 1975 fifteen WSH were written off (30516, 30517, 30519, 30521, 30523, 30524, 30525, 30530, 30531, 30532, 30533, 30534, 30535, 30536, 30541) and sold to the Aust. National Railways Commission. An image of WSH 30532 in ANR livery can be found here. The rest followed them to the ANR in 1976 (30518, 30520, 30522, 30526, 30527, 30528, 30529, 30537, 30538, 30539, 30540, 30542, 30543, 30544, 30545). They were recoded AHVY 1-30 at some point by ANR. In 1985 AHVY 18 was modified for Tasmania as new class HD superphosphate wagon. The rest were then converted to HD by 1989 (but not in numerical order). Details can be found on the Commrails page.

In 1977 XM 30501 was temporarily converted back to WSH for three weeks as were 30502, 30505, 30506, 30508, 30509, 30510-2, 30514, 30515 for four months in 1981.
