XE and XEB Class Bogie Ilmenite Hoppers

This class of wagons was built specifically to handle Ilmenite. In 1976 XE24441-24491 were placed in service.

In 1983 24441, 24442, 24447, 24448, 24451, 24453, 24459, 24462, 24466. 24467, 24473, 24483, 24486 and 24487 were fitted with Vacuum bypass pipes and reclassified XEB.

A further batch XE24492-6 were built in 1987 followed by a final group XE24436-24440 built for AMC in 1991. By June 2010 only 24483 and 24490 remained as XEB with the rest having reverted to class XE.

In 2014 all of the XE and XEB class wagons by now owned by Aurizon were listed for scrapping.
