Class GD high-sided goods wagons

This class of twenty-one wagons was a high-sided version of the GB class. A total of twenty-one was turned out in 1907-1909 as follows:

1907 156, 159, 163-8
1908 151, 169-176, 178, 183, 184
1909 7131

The fact that no more were built suggests that they were not a success. It may be that they were an experimental alternative to the GC class with extra height on a 15' frame rather than the 16' length of the GC.

This rather blurry, blown up image above is believed to be a GD class wagon.

They were disposed of as follows:
1931 7131 converted to GC
1950 159, 175 written off
1953 172, 183 written off
1954 163, 165-7, 170, 174, 178 written off
1955 156, 164, 168, 171, 176, 184 written off

156, 164, 171, 173, 174 & 184 became JETTY 63, 37, 43, 56, 29 & 30 respectively.

1956 151, 169 written off

This extreme blow up of State Library of WA 021700PD definitely shows a GD at Collie in around 1910.
