Class GHE high-sided wagon for fertiliser traffic with ridgepole

This class of thirty-two wagons was created by the conversion between 1977 and 1980 of several different types of wagons (classes GH, HCN and NO) using the standard 18'-0" chassis.

They all had steel bodies with small end doors and were almost identical to the steel GHB class wagons. From February 1979 "Fertiliser Traffic" was stencilled on the wagon sides.

One wagon (21503) was subject to an experimental folding roof as shown at right.
