Class KW steel open wagons for bulk wheat |

In 1931/2 a total of 120 K class wagons were fitted with wooden extensions to the sides and tarpaulin rails for wheat traffic. The first wagon to be converted was 10645 which ran for some time in its new condition as class K . Some of the wagons seem to have gained a replacement metal tubular ridge pole in place of the original wooden one as seen on KW10812 at right. Others lost the ridge pole completely in favour of cane support brackets as seen on KW10685 below. |
