Class MC cement wagons and Class ML lime wagons

In 1948 thirty class M wagons, all of which were on 15'-0" N.Z.R. type underframes were converted to class MC. The wagons involved were numbered:

1297, 1522, 1525, 1543, 1553, 1557, 1573, 1576, 1578, 1944, 1947, 2025, 2358, 2401, 2711, 2713, 2724, 2751, 2755, 2811, 3038, 3068, 3711, 3714, 3814, 3902, 4012, 4047, 4114, 4141

This conversion involved the removal of the sides and the fitting of a new single large cement container in the centre of the underframe. Whether these were the containers used in the 1935 KC wagons is unclear to me. The WAGR outline diagram for the MC class is shown below.

In 1953 twelve MC's were converted to class ML by modifying the container for lime traffic. The rest of the MC's were written off in 1957. The ML's survived until 1961 when they were transferred to the Public Works Department. Wagons converted from MC to ML in 1953 were:

1297, 1525, 1576, 1578, 2025, 2358, 2711, 2751, 2811, 3038, 3068, 4047

The WAGR outline diagram for the ML class is shown below.
