In 1969 ten QA class wagons had their bolster removed and were fitted to carry four nickel ore containers each. The wagons involved were 9354, 9365, 9398, 9406, 9424, 9426, 9427, 9435, 9446, 9448.

Seven of them (9354, 9365, 9398, 9406, 9427, 9435, 9446) were written off in 1977 and the final three 9424, 9426 and 9448 were written off in 1979.
