Class QC bogie bolster wagon

WAGR official photo of QC23505 (RHWA collection)

The post-war standard bogie bolster wagon was the QC class based on the 42'-0" chassis. A total of seventy-two were built by the Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon Co. They entered service in 1954 (23502-9) and 1955 (23501, 23510-72). In 1956 some of the relatively new TA class cattle trucks built on the same chassis were also converted to class QC (23612, 23623, 23653, 23661, 23681). Two wagons (23507, 23555) had the number of bolsters increased from four to seven and were reclassified QCB in 1961. The rest of the class remained intact until conversion to the new QBE standard started in 1975. The demise of the class was then fairly swift.

The WAGR outline diagram is shown below. Comparison of the dimensions with the photo suggests that the stanchions are drawn too short and should be the full 6'-11 ¼".
