At the end of steam in 1973 many surplus tenders were available. Thirty of the tenders from the W class locomotives were used to construct container wagons for Eneabba sands traffic. These wagons always ran in pairs with the inner ends coupled together via the locomotive type drawgear. The first two (14511/2) were converted in 1973 followed by the remaining 28 (14501-14510, 14513-30) in 1974. The entire class was written off in 1981.
