Class RC wooden bodied open wagons

WAGR official photo of RC22941 when new (RHWA collection)

In 1954 the first open wagons on the standard post-war 36'-0" bogie chassis appeared. They were class RC. A total of ninety were built in 1954 (22901-22950 by R Y Pickering) and 1958 (22951-22990 by Midland Workshops). New production from 1958 switched to the higher sided RCA design and this to some extent sealed their fate. Only three of the class were written off (22935 and 22944 in 1972 and 22932 in 1979) but the rest were converted into other classes by 1983.

1973 22901/4-6/8, 22911/6/8, 22920/4/5/9, 22942/6, 22954, 22961/4/6/8, 22970/1/6/7, 22982/9 converted to QRA
1982 22973 converted to RCA
