With the end of wagon load traffic on the W.A.G.R. in 1986 most of the bogie vans became redundant. The chassis (which were all of the same type) still had life in them and a program of converting these vans to steel bodied open wagons was started. The conversion programme finished in June 1988 after 160 wagons had been converted. The conversions were as listed below:
