In 1946 coach AF86 was converted to instruction van VI7979. It was gutted internally and fitted with a lecture room and also shelves for models. It was written off in 1971. The WAGR outline diagram for VI7979 is shown below. A second instruction van (VI7980) was converted from power car ADF490 in 1964. It was written off in 1980.
