Class VP troop carrying bogie vans

During the second world war the shortage of passenger carriages resulted in the conversion of twenty-five V class vans in 1942 to carry troops. Ten of the vans were fitted with roof lamps (1885, 2210, 2214, 2867, 3299, 3308, 3318, 3319, 3338, 3344) whilst the rest (1865, 1870, 1873, 1857, 2201, 2241, 2863, 3264, 3297, 3303, 3314, 3383, 3386, 3414, 3417) only had hurricane lamps. The hurricane lamps were eventually removed after vandalism by the troops. They all had a bench seat down the middle of the van. All of the VPs were reconverted in 1943.
