Class WAL Commissioner's Inspection car |

The two WBD class crew vans were intended for interstate operation but this never really happened with ANR crews doing the long distance turns. Only one was retained as WBD (852) and WBD 851 was converted to Commissioner's inspection car WAL 951 in July 1973. This new number was in the WAGR passenger carriage sequence. WAL 951 had sleeping accommodation for 14 in seven double bunk compartments. There was a dining room, kitchen, pantry and shower. One side had rather more windows than the other. WAL 951 was sold to the West Coast Railway in Victoria c1997 and placed on broad gauge bogies. After that company wound up in 2004 it went to Seymour Railway Heritage Centre. |
