Class Z Bogie Brake van Z29 (Rebuilt AO)

This brake van had a particularly long history. It began life as 6-wheeled BC class composite carriage number 7 in 1883. End platforms were added later and in April 1899 it became the funeral car (later class AO). It was fitted with 5'-6" wheelbase bogies sometime between 1903 and 1906. In May 1930 it was rebuilt as brake van Z5006 with a completely new body. In May 1939 it was renumbered Z29 and it was fitted with electric light in June 1956. It was finally written off in November 1973 after a 90 year innings.

The WAGR outline diagram shown below is for Z20. The engine load tables for 1959 list Z20 and Z29 together with the same dimensions so I think that this diagram is relevant even though the converted AO7 is not listed on the diagram. As it lasted until 1973 there may be a photo out there somewhere.
