Former brake van ZS580 was written back, modified for its new role and restencilled as the unique SD class pantograph vehicle in August 1988. It was used as an inspection vehicle for the new overhead electrification around Perth. Eventually it passed to the Pemberton Tramway who numbered it ZSD580.
