Class Z Bogie Brake van Z20 (Rebuilt BC185)

The BC class agricultural bank manager's vans were designed to provide a passenger compartment for the bank official, together with accommodation for two horses and space for a horse drawn road vehicle so that the bank manager could visit more remote areas. There were three of these vehicles but by the 1920s the advent of motor vehicles seems to have removed the need for them. In 1921-2 BC185 was converted into a survey van and some of the bodywork was removed. In May 1927 BC185 was rebuilt as Z185. This conversion produced a van with an end platform which was 33'-4" long on 5'-6" wheelbase bogies. It was renumbered Z20 in January 1939 and was written off in July 1964. It sister Z186 (later Z21) was rather different.
