ZBA class Bogie Brake vans |
WAGR Official photo of ZBA 435 as rebuilt from BA1000 (RHWA collection) |
The BA class horseboxes seem to have had a relatively uneventful life until the end of the large-scale use of horses after the Second World War. In 1952 numbers BA1000-1002, 1004 and 1005 were converted to ZBA class brake vans numbered 435-439. BA1003 was not selected for conversion for some reason and was written off in 1954. ZBA436 and 439 had modified versions of their old plate frame bogies whereas the rest all got the ZJ type. Their subsequent history is as follows: |
Number | Horsebox | To traffic | Electric Light | Written off |
ZBA435 | BA1000 | June 1952 | November 1954 | July 1973 |
ZBA436 | BA1001 | October 1952 | August 1955 | June 1970 |
ZBA437 | BA1002 | September 1952 | March 1956 | June 1971 |
ZBA438 | BA1004 | September 1952 | February 1956 | April 1973 |
ZBA439 | BA1005 | October 1952 | December 1955 | November 1977 |
