Class GS and GST wagons |
This class of 250 wagons was built between 1935 and 1942 by Midland workshops. These paired the GC body with a new type of steel underframe and followed on from the steel underframe version of the GC class. This new underframe for the first time on a W.A.G.R. four -wheeled wagon dispensed with solebars and relied on heavy side-sills. | |

Two wagons seem to have become accident victims in their early years with 260 being written off in 1953 and 9678 the following year although 9678 was written back in 1959. A significant problem with these wagons was the steel floor and from 1959 when the steel floor of these wagons need replacing new timber floors were fitted and the wagons reclassified GST. 146 wagons were converted to GST were as follows: |
