In 1965 two hundred and one RCB class wagons were fitted with ridgepoles and the sides were extended by one plank in height. These wagons were reclassified RCW.

1966	24251 written off
RCW 24232 was experimentally fitted with an "iron" roof in 1969 and 24409 got a sliding roof at about the same time. 24056 is noted as having "roof & hatch" whilst 24091 & 24372 are noted as fitted with "fibre glass roof hatch" Of these 24056 reverted to RCB in 1973, 24091 became an RCH in 1970, 24372 became an RCH in 1982 whilst 24409 eventually became an RCWA.

(RHWA collection) In 1970/1 ninety wagons were fitted with fibreglass roofs and converted to class RCH. After 1987 all of the remaining wagons were converted to class RCWA in 1987/8. The RCWA's were written off in one go in November 1994.
